Privacy

The DHS Privacy Office is responsible for evaluating the Department programs, systems, and initiatives for potential privacy impacts, and providing strategies to reduce the privacy impact.

  • DHS/ALL/PIA-084 Joint-Threat Information Management System (J-TIMS)

    The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Office of the Chief Security Officer (OCSO) is responsible for protecting DHS people, information, and resources against constantly evolving security threats. OCSO maintains the Joint-Threat Information Management System (J-TIMS) to meet this responsibility and manage information from across its Directorates (Threat Management Operations (TMO), Enterprise Security Operations and Support (ESOS), and Headquarters Support).

  • DHS/OIG/PIA-004 TeamMate Application

    The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Office of Inspector General (OIG) is responsible for conducting and supervising independent and objective audits, inspections, evaluations, and investigations to prevent and detect fraud, waste, and abuse and promote economy, effectiveness, and efficiency within DHS programs and activities.

  • Aircraft Systems

    The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) employs several types of aircraft, including manned helicopters, fixed-wing aircraft, and Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) for border surveillance and law enforcement purposes. These aircraft may be equipped with video, radar, and sensor technologies to assist CBP in patrolling the border, conducting surveillance for law enforcement investigations or tactical operations, or gathering data to assist in disaster relief and emergency response.

     

  • DHS/ALL/PIA-042 CCTV Systems

    DHS and its components deploy a number of Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) systems throughout the department (See Appendix for detailed list).

  • DHS/ALL/PIA-031 Use of Social Networking Interactions and Applications Communications/Outreach/Public Dialogue

    This PIA analyzes DHS' use of social networking and how these interactions and applications could result in DHS receiving PII.

  • DHS/S&T/PIA-044 Cloud-based Biometric Analytic Environment

    This Privacy Impact Assessment evaluates the privacy risks and mitigations associated with this system including the use and maintenance of personally identifiable information (PII) collected by DHS Components and shared with S&T for research, development, testing, and evaluation in the Cloud-based Biometric Analytic Environment.

  • DHS/CISA/PIA-035 National Cybersecurity Protection System (NCPS) - Core Infrastructure

    This Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) provides an in-depth analysis of the collection of information through the operation of the NCPS Core Infrastructure. CISA is in the process of developing separate PIAs to document the privacy implications for each of the NCPS’s capability areas (Intrusion Prevention, Intrusion Detection, Analytics, Core Infrastructure, and Information Sharing). Once published, these PIAs will eventually replace the currently published DHS/CISA/PIA-026 National Cybersecurity Protection System (NCPS).

  • DHS/CBP/PIA-073 Advance Travel Authorization (ATA)

    New Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) to provide notice and assess the privacy risks associated with the new, voluntary Advance Travel Authorization (ATA).

  • DHS/ICE/PIA-064 Immigration and Customs Enforcement Operational Use of Publicly Available Information Including Social Media Information for Law Enforcement Investigations

    This Privacy Impact Assessment focuses on the collection and use of publicly available information including social media information for law enforcement investigations, leaving in-depth analysis of maintenance and sharing to the respective Privacy Impact Assessments for ICE systems in which the data is ultimately stored.
